Razer has recently launched the Barracuda X, a brand new gaming headset that pairs wirelessly with devices via a USB-C dongle. Most importantly, it is designed to be compatible with the Nintendo Switch – a console that has been severely lacking in the number of supported wireless audio devices, despite its huge popularity.
Rather than being based on an existing headset such as the Kraken or Adaro, the Razer Barracuda X features an entirely new design. It features a sleek and stylish look, with adjustable swiveling ear cups that are designed to maximise comfort for every user – regardless of their head size and ear shape. Chief among these is the plush memory foam ear cushions that lack any fake leather coverings – which is much appreciated, seeing how these things tend to peel off after prolonged use. The headset also comes in a very light weight of only 250g.
Design and comfort aside, the Barracuda X also features the latest in Razer’s audio technology. Onboard is the TriForce 40mm drivers, which the brand touts to provide an immersive audio experience via clear high, mid and low range frequencies, rich midrange and powerful bass. Located on the left earcup is a detachable HyperClear Cardioid Mic that offers improved voice isolation and increased sensitivity for low frequency response, as well as featuring an optimised housing for added clarity and accurate voice pick-up.
While its compatibility with the Nintendo Switch is the headset’s biggest draw, the Razer Barracuda X is also compatible with others including PC, PlayStation and Android devices. As mentioned earlier, it can be easily paired by attaching the included 2.4GHz Razer HyperSpeed Wireless USB-C dongle. Included in the box are USB-A and 3.5mm jack adapters for devices that lack USB-C connectivity – also handy to have, especially when using the Switch in its docked mode. And just in case you’re wondering, the company clarified that the headset does not include Bluetooth connectivity support.
Battery-wise, Razer says the Barracuda X can last up to 20 hours of continuous use. Also included together with the new headset is a USB-C to USB-A cable for charging, but it is not specified if the device comes with any fast charging support or capability.
The Razer Barracuda X is available now at a recommended retail price of RM459. Those interested can purchase the new wireless gaming headset from the brand’s online store via its official website.
