Prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin has announced that the free 1GB daily data offered by telcos will be further extended until the end of the year. The extension was revealed as a part of the government’s newly announced PEMULIH initiative that aims to soften the financial blow to Malaysians during the lockdown.
Muhyiddin said that the extension is valued at RM500 million and will benefit a total of 44 million subscribers nationwide. The current daily data initiative was originally set to end on 31st July.
Since no change was announced by the government or the participating telcos, it is assumed that all previous data restrictions will still be in place with this extension. This means that the free 1GB data is only reserved for online education and productivity, and not to be used for leisurely purposes such as for social media, gaming, or video streaming.
