Astro and Netflix have officially confirmed their much-rumoured partnership through a joint announcement that was released just moments ago. Netflix is the fourth streaming service that has partnered with Astro after Disney+ Hotstar, iQIYI, and HBO.
If you are already excited to grab Netflix’s access via your Astro subscription, hold your horses. This is because what is happening today is just a mere formality.
In general, Astro is still not ready to provide Netflix access to its customers right now. This is unlike the launch of Disney+ Hotstar whereby there was a set date for Astro customers to activate their access although the company was completely swarmed by customers’ request when the activation day arrived.
That being said, both companies have pointed out that Astro customers will be able to access Netflix through the pay TV’s operator connected boxes. The integration will be made available for Astro Ultra first before being extended to the Astro Ulti.
No exact timeline for the integration to take place was mentioned inside the joint release, aside from that it will be rolled out in “coming months“. The same goes for the pricing, billing, and availability of the service as stated by the newly published FAQ section for Netflix on Astro’s website.
Hence, we don’t know at the moment if this new partnership will result in another round of price hike for Astro Movie Pack customers based on what happened with the arrival of Disney+ Hotstar in Malaysia. So, all we can do at the moment is wait although you are already able to visit the dedicated section for Netflix on Astro’s website.
