Menteri Besar of Selangor, Amirudin Shari earlier today has unveiled yet another set of aid packages called Pakej Kita Selangor 2.0 to assist citizens during the ongoing MCO 3.0 total lockdown and global COVID-19 pandemic. Involving 25 programs with a total value of RM 551.56 million, among them are two subsidized Internet packages that are meant specifically for B40 and M40 groups.
One of them is the Data Internet Selangor which involved a SIM pack with an unlimited data quota that will be offered to 70,000 people that have been categorized as part of the B40 group. In addition to that, the pack is also targeted at small businesses, students, single mothers, taxi drivers, senior citizens, and gig workers.
Those who are eligible for the pack will only need to pay RM 15 per month instead of RM 35 as the additional monthly fee of RM 20 will be paid by the state-owned Menteri Besar Selangor Incorporated instead. According to Minister Amirudin, the Selangor state government has allocated RM 17.5 million to cover the subsidy which will last for 12 months.
Meanwhile, there is also the Skim Internet Selangor Kategori M40 (SISM40) which is being done through a collaboration with TM. Expected to be available for Selangor’s citizen on 1 July 2021, the SISM40 will be made available through eight packages which include a subsidy of between RM 10 to RM 30 per month for one year.
However, Minister Amirudin didn’t provide any in-depth details regarding both Internet subsidy programs during his speech today. We will keep you posted once we hear more from the Selangor state government, so stay tuned.
