Astro’s latest offering, sooka has officially opened its doors today. Available through its Android and iOS app, the new streaming service is also accessible via its official website although smart TV and Android TV apps are still under development.
As per our report yesterday, don’t be surprised if you hardly see any Astro’s branding on sooka as this was done on purpose with the intention to show that the new streaming service has a separate direction from its parent company. That being said, those who are familiar with the content lineup that the pay-TV operator offered to its customers would immediately notice where sooka got its contents from.
At the moment, sooka focused heavily on sports as well as locally produced TV shows and movies with the majority of them being in Bahasa Malaysia. Aside from on-demand contents, the service also has several live channels as listed below:
- KBS World
- tvN
- Astro Arena
- Astro Awani
- eGG Network
- Astro Supersports 1 to 4
- Fox Sports 1 to 3
- beIN Sports and Sports Max
- Eurosport
Do note that only Arena, Awani, and eGG Network can be accessed for free while the rest is part of sooka’s VIP Entertainment and VIP+Sports subscription packs. On top of that, sooka also has two channels dedicated to the upcoming UEFA Euro 2020 with 33 matches that will be available without any charges.
Speaking about subscription packs, the VIP Entertainment option which costs RM 15.90 per month essentially allows users to access all the contents within sooka except for sports. If you want to have sports, then you need the VIP+Sports subscription which is priced at RM 41.90 per month.
However, sooka is currently offering the VIP+Sports subscription at RM 15.90 per month for the first three months in conjunction with the launch of the service. The pricing is a time-limited promo though, as the offer will expire on 7 July 2021.
The VIP+Sports subscription will also provide access to other major sporting events too. Astro has since confirmed that the English Premier League (EPL) will be shown through sooka as well as MotoGP, BWF World Championships, Formula 1, and many more.
