Twitter has officially unveiled its premium subscription service known as Twitter Blue. As expected, the announcement arrived not long after its first discovery on the Apple App Store by leakster Jane Manchun Wong a couple of days ago.
The premium-exclusive services offered by Twitter Blue are exactly as what was speculated by Wong. To recap, the new features accessible to subscribers include the ability to undo tweets, add bookmarks and folders, and compiling threads into a single page via Reader Mode. All of which are functions that Twitter users have been asking for throughout the years.
According to the platform’s recent blog post, Undo Tweet provides users a customisable timer of up to 30 seconds before posting something new. This enables them to review their tweet in case of typos and other potential mistakes during the designated countdown. It’s not exactly the “edit tweet” function that most users have been requesting, but it does come close.
Meanwhile, Bookmark Folders lets you organise saved tweets in folders, making them easier to find later. Reader Mode, on the other hand, introduces the ability to compile certain threads on Twitter into a single page for easy reading. This comes in handy as most threads, especially longer ones, are often interrupted by clutter which hinders the reading experience.
Other than the aforementioned, Twitter Blue also lets subscribers customise the platform’s overall theme and even app icon with different colours. Lastly, access to a “dedicated subscription customer support” is also provided, which grants premium users an expedited timeframe for resolving account or subscription related issues.
Twitter revealed via its blog that the premium service will first debut only in Canada and Australia, where subscription fees will cost CAD 3.49 and AUD 4.49 per month. It explained that this initial rollout is intended to test the service in order to understand what potential improvements can be done before releasing Twitter Blue globally.
That being said, the company did not mention when its new subscription is expected to launch in other regions. Whether or not Twitter Blue will find its way to Malaysia remains to be seen. Based on the pricing revealed for Canada and Australia, there’s a chance that the subscription fee will cost around RM12.90 if it does debut locally.
