Following the arrival of the service in Malaysia today, Astro customers with Movie Packs in their subscription can now obtain access to Disney+ Hotstar. Given the hype surrounding the new streaming service, it is not surprising to see that the company is now being overwhelmed by activation requests from its customers.
While the site itself seems to be holding on very well but many customers are not able to complete their activation request, as noted by the error notification shown in our screenshots. Naturally, customers are being asked to try again at a later time.
Alternatively, they can also leave their contacts to Astro and the company will send an SMS once things have settled down. We have reached out to Astro’s representative to find out about the expected turnaround time for this request and the company has advised its customers to check back in a few hours.
Disney+ Hotstar is the latest OTT partner that Astro has gained after having a similar deal with HBO and iQiYi as the company attempts to revitalise itself to face the increasing popularity of streaming services. It did come at a cost though as all Astro Movie Pack customers now have to pay an additional RM 5 per month regardless of whether they choose to activate Disney+ Hotstar or otherwise.
