Maybank has announced that it will temporarily close some of its branches from 2 June 2021 onwards until further notice, with some slated to operate by appointment only. The move is in line with the government’s recent decision to implement a nationwide lockdown starting tomorrow in order to curb the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The bank explained that making all visits by appointment will help it manage crowds better, reduce waiting times, and reduce risks of exposure to the virus for both its staff and customers. At the same time, Maybank revealed that unaffected branches will operate from 9:30am to 2pm daily, and appointment slot availability will depend on the size and capacity of the branches. Senior citizens, people with disabilities and expectant mothers will be prioritised and will not be required to schedule an appointment, the bank added.

For those interested to book an appointment with Maybank are encouraged to apply via its EzyQ service that is available on the MAE mobile app and Maybank2u website. The bank said that appointments can be made up to 15 days ahead of the scheduled visit, and noted that bookings made via EzyQ prior to this announcement will remain unaffected.

Maybank mentioned in its press release that those who wish to check which of its branches are open during the lockdown may check its official website via this link. However, it’s worth noting that the corresponding page appears to be down at the time of writing. Hopefully, the bank will resolve this issue soon enough. Alternatively, you can also check the available Maybank locations via the EzyQ page (shown above), under the “Branch” pulldown menu after selecting your state and district.

Other than that, and as expected, Maybank is encouraging all of its customers to perform their essential banking via its digital channels such as Maybank2U and MAE from home. Concurrently, those insistent on visiting the bank’s branches physically are recommended to utilise its Drop n Go service for lengthy transactions such as ASNB and business account openings, as well as its Bulk Remittance Payments service in order to reduce physical interaction.
