Along with the development of its rollable smartphone, LG was said to have worked on a new handset known by the codename “Rainbow”, which would feature flagship-tier specifications. Unfortunately, due to the brand’s exit from the smartphone market earlier this year, these new devices will never make their way to users.
That is, unless you’re an LG employee based in South Korea.
According to Twitter user FrontTron, a self-proclaimed tipster based in the country, LG is offering its employees the chance to own either of the unreleased smartphone models at attractive prices. Alleged internal communications, provided as screenshots by the leakster, revealed that the company has a limited stock for both the rollable and Rainbow phones, with the latter is said to be available at only 3,000 units.

Based on prior leaks from different sources, the Rainbow was intended to be released as the LG Velvet 2 Pro and would feature the same clean and minimalist design language of its predecessor. In terms of hardware, the phone comes with a curved 6.8-inch FHD+ OLED display with 120Hz refresh rate, a Snapdragon 888 processor, and a 4,500mAh battery. On its back is a triple camera setup, but details regarding each sensor are not known.

While the price of the rollable phone was not revealed, FrontTron claims that LG is selling the Rainbow smartphone at only US$170 per unit. After conversion, that’s basically around RM580 for a flagship LG device, which is a very good deal. Also not forgetting that you’re only paying that much for a rare, unreleased smartphone that also happens to be the last of its kind from the South Korean tech company.
It appears that LG employees also realised that fact and may have caused a huge influx of interest internally, the leakster added. So much so that the company had to delay the sale of these devices due to “high popularity”.

Non-LG staff who are hoping to score a unit of the rollable phone or the Rainbow flagship will be disappointed to know that the chances of these devices appearing on sites such as Ebay or Amazon will be very slim, or even unlikely. According to FrontTron, company employees are only allowed to own a maximum of two units (of the LG Rainbow) and are strictly prohibited from reselling either product after acquiring them.
But even if they did turn up for sale online, you can expect both smartphones to be sold at heavily scalped prices instead of what LG had offered to its staff.
