Valve’s annual The International Dota 2 tournaments are frequently breaking its own record of largest prize pools for esports tourneys. Apex Legends will be using the same formula for its own upcoming tourney, from the looks of it.
EA made the announcement earlier on its website. In it, the publisher said that starting today, it is adding new item bundles to the Apex Legends store. Proceeds from the purchase of these new bundles will then be added to the Apex Legends Global Series prize pool. At its base, EA is putting up US$1 million (~RM4.13 million), and sales of the new bundles can push it up to US$3 million (~RM12.38 million).
The ALGS Championship prize pool is growing! We're increasing the base USD $1M prize pool up to $3M based on purchases of bundles for the Apex Legends Global Series, available starting today!

A total of five bundles will be available starting today, and will be sold through 1 June. Four of them consists of a Legendary Legend skin, an Epic Banner Frame, and an Epic Gun Charm. The last one bundles up all four, if you like them all and are willing to pay for them.
It’s pretty conservative of EA to cap the player contribution to the prize pool. But even at US$3 million, it will be just about the prize pool of the first crowdfunded The International, back in 2013. Who knows, maybe a few years down the line Apex Legends will have a prize pool to rival the over US$40 million of The International 10.
