In a rather interesting move by Apple, the company has recently reduced the pricing of its new AirTag tracker in Malaysia to RM 129. As you may recall, the tracker was originally priced at RM 149 when it was announced during last month’s Spring Loaded event.
In general, the new pricing has reduced the price gap between the tracker and its nearest competitor from Samsung, the Galaxy SmartTag. Listed at RM 119, Samsung Malaysia has actually been selling the tracker at a much lower price since its release back in January.
Currently available through Samsung e-Store for RM 99 per piece or RM 159 if you choose to buy two units, the Galaxy SmartTag is not the true competitor to the AirTag though as it doesn’t come with support for the ultra-wideband (UWB).
For one-to-one comparison, the UWB-enabled Galaxy SmartTag+ makes more sense although Samsung Malaysia has yet to reveal its pricing even though the tracker has been listed on Samsung Malaysia’s e-Store.
Meanwhile, the Malaysian release date for the AirTag is still yet to be known for now. That being said, it has passed the certification process by SIRIM and has been listed under Apple Malaysia’s name in the agency’s database as A2187 which means that it could be released into our market shortly.
We will keep you posted once Apple is ready to do that, so stay tuned.
