First announced during the tabling of Belanjawan 2021 last November, Jaringan Prihatin finally rolls out today. The program was originally scheduled to take place in March but it was then shifted to this month instead.
Involving a budget of RM 2 billion with additional benefits worth RM 1.5 billion from local telcos, the program provides free data alongside a telco subsidy that can be used towards an Internet subscription or a new device.
Available for those who are eligible for Bantuan Prihatin Rakyat (BPR), they can claim free 2GB of data which has one-hour validity on a daily basis. In addition to that, they can choose to have either a RM 15 rebate per month for one year or the subsidy to purchase a new device.
For individuals with children, they are eligible to receive a subsidy of RM 300 while those without children, their subsidy is limited to RM 180. Naturally, all major telcos in the country are participating in the program including Celcom, Digi, Maxis, U Mobile, unifi, and Yes.
Local Mobile Network Virtual Operators (MVNOs) such as Mcalls, redONE, SpeakOut, Tune Talk, XOX, and Yoodo have signed up for it as well. Each telco and MVNO have their own way to disperse the benefits under Jaringan Prihatin, so make sure to reach out to your providers for further information before the registration period ends on 31 July 2021.
