We have reported earlier that Astro Movies Pack customers are able to obtain access to Disney+ Hotstar for an additional RM 5 per month. As it turns out though, the extra monthly fee will be applied to all Astro Movies Pack subscribers out there regardless of whether they want to access Disney+ Hotstar or otherwise.
This is based on a FAQ document on Astro’s official website which we have missed earlier. According to question 11 inside the document, an additional RM 5 per month will be added automatically on the customer’s Movie Pack subscription even if they do not activate their access to Disney+ Hotstar.
There is nothing you can do about it according to Astro as the company noted in question 17 that it reserved the rights to make amendments to its packages. To defend its new policy, Astro pointed out in question 16 that new contents from Disney+ Hotstar added more value to its Movies Pack and the company even claimed that it is the “best bundle deal in town”.
In many ways, Astro should have worded its original announcement much clearer by noting that there will be a price hike through the inclusion of the new streaming service. This is instead making the announcement sound as if Disney+ Hotstar is an optional add-on content for Movies Pack subscribers.
Meanwhile, the only way for Astro Movies Pack customers out there to avoid the price hike is by offloading the pack altogether. So now, the choice is in your hands.
