After months of speculations, rumours, and UI leaks, Disney+ launch date in Malaysia has finally been revealed. During the ongoing Walt Disney Company Media Day, the company has announced that the service, which will come in the form of Disney+ Hotstar in our market, will officially begin streaming from 1 June onwards.
In terms of pricing, the Disney+ Hotstar costs RM 54.90 via a 3-month subscription plan which means the service costs around RM 18.30 per month. Today’s announcement has pretty much confirmed what we have seen on the Malaysian UI of the Disney+ Hotstar Android app yesterday.
However, the company didn’t reveal any other alternative pricing plan though for Malaysia which is rather odd since Disney+ Hotstar Indonesia and India has multiple pricing tiers.

Meanwhile, Malaysian consumers can also obtain the service through a special package from Astro although the exact detail regarding the said package was not explained during the media briefing. However, it has been noted on the Disney+ Hotstar Malaysia’s official website which has finally gone live for real, that Astro Movie Pack customers will receive access to the service.
Walt Disney Company has noted that the Disney+ Hotstar Malaysia will be offering around 800 films alongside 18,000 episodes of TV series right from the start. Naturally, these contents will come not only from Disney itself but also from its other brands and subsidiaries such as Marvel, Pixar, Fox, Star Wars, and National Geographic.
The service will also feature plenty of Malaysian contents, thanks to Disney+ Hotstar multi-year deal with local studios such as Skop Productions, Revolution Media Films, Primeworks Studios, WAU Animation, Act 2 Pictures, Les’ Copaque Production, Red Films, and many more.
In terms of access, Malaysian users will be able to subscribe and enjoy the contents of Disney+ Hotstar Malaysia via its official website as well as the service’s Android and iOS app. For those who want to sign up via Astro, keep a look out for our subsequent report regarding the matter.
