Garmin has unveiled the successor to its Venu smartwatch with not just one, but two new devices to the line-up. The first being the Venu 2 which comes in a 45mm size, while the Venu 2S is a smaller 40mm variant.
Despite the size differences, both variants sport a design that is almost identical to its predecessor. The larger Venu 2 is equipped with a 1.3-inch 416 x 416 px OLED screen, while the Venu 2S comes with the same display tech at 1.1-inches and 360 x 360 px resolution. The duo also feature Gorilla Glass 3 protection and an optional always-on capability for their respective displays.
In terms of battery life, Garmin claims that the Venu 2 is able to last up to 11 days when used normally, whereas the Venu 2S is said to go as far as 10 days. Both watches greatly outperform their predecessor, which can only go up to 5 days of regular usage on a single charge. The newer models also come with faster charging capability that is claimed to provide you with almost an entire day of use after 10 minutes of charging.
As expected from the successors of the original Venu, the new smartwatches will come with an assortment of sensors for various purposes. These include heart rate and blood oxygen trackers, barometer, compass, gyroscope, accelerometer, thermometer, and an ambient light sensor. There’s also GPS and NFC functions, as well as smart features such as notifications and music playback controls. Speaking of which, for those who prefer to stream music directly from your smartwatch, both variants can store up to 650 songs from services such as Spotify.
In terms of software, Garmin has introduced several new health-based features on the Venu 2 series. Sleep Score which can provide you with an aggregated score based on your recorded sleep stages, heart rate, stress, respiration and blood oxygen levels. Meanwhile, Fitness Age estimates your, well, fitness age based on your tracked activities and offers you recommended high-intensity interval training (HIIT) guides and advanced strength training. Lastly, Health Snapshot lets you log a 2-minute session to record key health stats which are then used to generate a report that you can share with your healthcare provider.
The new Garmin Venu 2 and Venu 2S are available now via the brand’s official website for certain regions. Surprisingly, both variants are offered at the same suggested retail price of US$400 (~RM 1,642). Garmin Malaysia has yet to announce the local availability and pricing for the new smartwatches.
