Depending on the backdrop, video games have always been a good source for learning. This is useful for subjects that people often find boring, like history. Though the dry subject is about to get a very interesting coat of paint, via Age of Empires IV.
As part of its Fan Preview event, Relic Entertainment showed off one of the new campaigns of the upcoming game. While Age of Empires as a series has always provided context to its campaign battles, the fourth entry takes things a little bit further. Game Director Quinn Duffy said that the campaign will be presented in a “modern documentary style” to connect history and gameplay. And some of this can be seen in the real-life re-enactments.
And according to The Verge, there will also be a period of accurate language as well. This can be found in both the campaign, as well as normal gameplay of Age of Empires IV. For example, The English will start off speaking in a version of the language that’s unrecognisable to most. But as you progress through the ages, so will the language become more and more similar to what we speak today.
Age of Empires IV will be released some time in autumn 2021, which starts in late September. In the meantime, you can watch the 26-minute video yourself to see what the game is all about. Interestingly, there’s also a version of it dubbed in Malay, which is shared on the newly renamed Xbox SEA Facebook page.
