Ah, April Fools. In the world of tech, this once-a-year tradition of being pranked and pranking others is typically taken such a level, they border on absurdity, and understandably so. And while there are currently several tech-based jokes to be found online, it’s this gag video about an NVIDIA Geforce RTX “4090” series cards that have us in stitches.
The video was posted by a YouTuber by the name of Captains Workspace, who shows off not just one, but two cards for the series: an RTX 4090 and a supposedly more powerful RTX 4090 Ti. As he starts with the RTX 4090, you can see that the “card’s” design and aesthetics are just outright ridiculous. For fans, the card has a total of 12 fans: eight in the front of the car, and four at the back.
Then, to compound the joke further, the man tells us that the card draws power “straight from the wall” via two built-in 3-pin power connectors.
And then there’s the specification of the RTX 4090. The card comes with 48GB GDDR7 memory, 18000 CUDA cores, 232 RT Cores, and a boost clock of 2169MHz. Even more ludicrous is its power consumption of 1kW (Kilowatt), which explains the earlier mentioned dual power connectors.
The rest of the video shows Workspace “testing” the RTX 4090, which he obviously shows it toppling the current RTX 3090, but not without its own set of “issues”. Just when you think the joke couldn’t go further, he then shows off the RTX 4090 Ti. Compared to the RTX 4090, the card supposedly comes with eight GPUs and four times the number of fans. Sadly, Workspace’s attempt at getting the card is “met with failure” to launch, with the GPU shorting out the power for his entire lab and, presumably, house.
