Nintendo has recently confirmed that no new Switch model will be announced “anytime soon.” This is referring to the much rumoured Pro variant that is believed to be equipped with upgraded hardware that is capable of supporting resolutions of up to 4K.
The topic was brought up by Bloomberg’s Takashi Mochizuki during a private Q&A session that followed Nintendo’s financial results briefing. The journalist says that the company has no plans to announce a new Switch model at this time, but did not directly deny its existence.
Q: new model this year?
A: not planning to make an annoucement anytime soon as we have Mario ver in Feb, MH ver in Mar.Hint: Nintendo chief last year said not planning to release new model in 2020. Today's was just "not anytime soon." So, that means…?https://t.co/MQkwskXYrn

However, there’s also the possibility that Nintendo may be referring to limited editions of the console instead of a new variant. According to Mochizuki, a company spokesperson said that no new Switch consoles are expected, as they have already unveiled the Mario Red & Blue Edition for February and the Monster Hunter Rise limited edition in March.
News of the alleged Switch Pro was also reported by Bloomberg last year, citing industry sources familiar with the matter. Nintendo is said to have asked developers to prepare for an upcoming hardware refresh of the console, advising them to have their upcoming games to be 4K ready. Both the production and debut of the new model is reportedly expected to happen in 2021.
