It’s been six years since Bioware launched Dragon Age Inquisition, the third instalment of the franchise, and all but a brief teaser for Dragon Age 4 back in 2018. During the 2020 Game Awards, the studio released a new teaser trailer for the latter, once again giving us a glimpse of what’s to come.
As with all sequels, Bioware’s new title will pick up directly where Dragon Age Inquisition left off. Solas, the playable Elf companion who was ultimately revealed to be the Dread Wolf – known also by his Elvish name, Fen’Harel – was secretly trying to destroy the world of Thedas, while manipulating the Herald, the protagonist from the last game.
While short, there are some details that we can definitely make out. For starters, the entire trailer is narrated by one of the game’s most iconic character, Varric, who in turn is voiced by Brian Bloom. On another note, we also get a glimpse of a city within what we assume is the Tevinter Imperium; a city that was implied to play a crucial role in Dragon Age 4.
On another note, the trailer may have also given us a glimpse of the Black City, a place that effectively exists beyond the “Veil”. Just as it was with Inquisition, and judging from Varric’s narration, it looks like the new title will also be centred around a new and entirely different playable character. Who will ultimately face off against the Dread Wolf.
The only thing missing from the trailer, sadly, is a tangible launch date for the game. However, the game will be available for PC, PlayStation 5 (PS5), and the Xbox Series X and Series S.
