Abbott has announced that its FreeStyle Libre continuous glucose monitoring (GCM) system is now available in Malaysia. It’s something that those living with diabetes may find useful for getting constant updates on their blood sugar level in check.
The Abbot FreeStyle Libre system consists of a small coin-sized sensor and a reader. The sensor is worn on the back of the upper arm, and it will provide readings for 14 days. You also won’t need to calibrate it manually as it has been factory calibrated. It also comes with an IP27 rating, which allows it to survive the shower or even a swimming pool.
It provides reading updates every minute, and stores up to eight hours’ worth of readings at a time. As for the reader, it can store up to 90 days of glucose data. All you have to do to update your readings is to scan the sensor with the reader. And it’s a process that takes about a second.
The Abbott FreeStyle Libre GCM is available on the company’s official store on Lazada. The starter kit comes with a price of RM564. If you need just the reader, you can get one for RM282. Though prolonged use will likely see you buying two sensors per month, each costing RM282.
