Ever wonder what it’s like to have the kind of money you think politicians have? Now you don’t have to, with Spend Like an MP. It’s a very short and simple browser game made by a developer at Malaysiakini, Lee Leong Hui and the news outlet’s experimental team, Kini News Lab.
The premise of Spend Like an MP is pretty simple. You start by choosing to play as either a government or opposition politician. You’ll be allocated funds based on this choice, but the overall scenario will otherwise be exactly the same. For each scenario, you’ll have the opportunity to learn more as to why the situation is the way it is. Your objective is to make all the “right” choices and spend the appropriate amount of money to get reelected.
@KiniNewsLab has published the "Spend Like an MP" game which allows you to play a role as a member of parliament in Malaysia.

Though in Spend Like an MP, it’s nearly impossible to not get reelected if you play as a government MP. On the flip side, there’s only one way to win as an opposition MP in this game. And that is by spending lavishly until the last scenario, where you won’t have enough to do anything anyway.
Malaysiakini says Spend Like an MP was made after interviewing a number of elected MPs from both sides of the political divide. While short, it’s educational enough that it’s worth the couple of minutes to click on every “learn more” label you see. You can even try to fail as a government MP if you have the time to spare.
