As you well know, the supply and availability of Sony’s PlayStation 5 (PS5) console are limited and that scarcity applies on a global scale. In the UK, several customers who purchased the console through Amazon found out that their consoles had been stolen.
According to Eurogamer, several customers in the UK who were eagerly awaiting the delivery of their PS5 found their gaming consoles had been swapped out with completely different items. Even worse, the replaced items varies for each package, including pet food, a foot massager, and in the case of one consumer, a Nerf gun.
So, @AmazonUK looks like someone has stolen my (day late) PS5. Right outer box, wrong item. Where can I get help? @AmazonHelp @PlayStationUK pic.twitter.com/qBIZ3RHl1I

There’s even tell-tale signs of the package having been tampered with; instead of the usual Amazon Prime branding, the tampered packages were instead sealed with clear tape. As to the suspects behind these thefts, many are pointing their fingers towards the couriers themselves, with some reportedly having witnessed them just stopping outside their house, simply to record delivery at the location. Before speeding off with the packages that allegedly contained the customer’s PS5 console.
In light of the issue, Amazon UK released a statement saying that it wishes “to do right by its customers” and that an investigation into the matter was already underway.
Sony’s PlayStation 5 console is, without a doubt, the brand’s most anticipated console but as is the case with virtually every other company, production of the console has been hindered by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. It also doesn’t help that demand for the console currently exceeds the scarce supply, leading to some unscrupulous resellers and scalpers buying up the bulk of the consoles and selling them back at inflated prices.
