If you’re a Maybank debit card user, you may be used to getting SMS notifications every time you use it. The bank has announced that this is set to change come 3 December. These notifications will be replaced by push notifications from the Maybank App instead.
One thing to note is that this change from SMS alert to push notifications only apply to those who are already using the Maybank App. In its FAQ, the bank also says that notifications will only be sent when a debit card transaction exceeds RM500. So if that’s not usually an amount you spend in a single transaction, you won’t be getting any form of notification.
Maybank did not cite any reason for the change. But it did provide steps to enable push notifications for those who need it. Regardless, on whether you’re using an Android or iOS device, you’ll need to head to Settings and allow the app to send you notifications from there. Though in most cases, you should find that this is enabled by default.
Ultimately, it shouldn’t be too big a change in the overall user experience. You’ll still be able to use your Maybank debit card as usual. It’s just that you’ll be notified of successful transactions differently. Assuming you spend enough in one transaction to be notified to begin with.
