Samsung has announced its new Smart Monitor, a desktop monitor that it says is designed to “do it all”. What sets this monitor apart from the standard desktop monitor though, is that it comes pre-installed with the brand’s own Tizen 5.5 OS.
The new Smart Monitor is available in two models, the M7 and M5. Specifically, the M7 is only available in a 32-inch variant, while the M5 ships out in either 32-inches or 27-inches. However, it is the M7 that has a maximum resolution of 4K (3840 x 2160), while the M5 is limited to just Full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution across the board.
Display resolution aside, both the M7 and M5 share identical features, including the ability to connect with both PCs and smartphones. With the latter, Samsung smartphone owners can simply do so via their Tap View function should they wish to connect remotely. On that note, you can use Samsung DeX with the monitor simply by connecting your Galaxy device directly to it.
Other features of the Smart Monitor also include the ability to stream digital content independently and without the need of a PC or mobile device. This feature includes access to streaming services such as Netflix, HBO, and YouTube. Oh, and it also features voice control via Bixby. Naturally, all this is done wirelessly, thanks to the Smart Monitor’s support for Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 4.2.
Specs-wise, the Smart Monitor comes with an array of HDMI 2.0 ports, a USB-C port that supports 65W Charging (for the M7), as well as HDR10 support. Both the M7 and M5 will be first made available in the US, Canada, and China. At the time of writing, Samsung Malaysia did not specify local availability or pricing.
