If you’ve recently been attempting to continue the story in either Assassin’s Creed Valhalla or Watch Dogs Legion, and your in-game progress is having trouble loading or saving, know this: you’re not the only one going through the ordeal.
It seems that a number of players who own either Valhalla and Legion had taken to the Ubisoft’s forums and Reddit, complaining that both games were having trouble saving their progress and that both titles telling them that the data is corrupted. Losing your save game can be rage-inducing – ask any gamer and they’ll surely have their own tale of the heart-stopping experience – especially when a game uses an auto-save feature to help players keep track of where they are in terms of story and character progression.
At the time of writing, the issue still hasn’t been resolved and Ubisoft, the games’ studio and publisher, has yet to release a statement or address the issue. Despite the tech site Engadget having reached out to them for one. Further, it also doesn’t look like the issue is isolated to a specific platform; gamers who own the titles on their game consoles and PC seem to be affected.
As to what the cause is, many are speculating that the issue resides in Ubisoft’s cloud-based saving mechanic, although there are some who find that issue to be unlikely.
Regardless of the cause, the fact of the matter is this: losing a save game file, especially after a player has put in the hours to get its main character up to the stage that they are, can be demoralising. Not only can it cause players to lose interest in the game, it also leaves a lasting impression on the video game publisher and its reputation.
