Sony Interactive Entertainment yesterday had dropped a bombshell of news for gamers in Malaysia by unveiling the release date and pricing for PlayStation 5 for our market. Not only that, the company has also announced that the pre-order for the new console would take place today, 12 November.
In total, there are 27 retailers involved in the PS5 pre-order program in Malaysia. Majority of them are well-known game stores such as Impulse Gaming, Heavy Arm, CK Multimedia System, Mission World, and Gamer’s Hideout. Alongside them are general computer retailers All IT Hypermarket and Pineapple Computer System as well as the two main Sony Stores and selected Sony Centre nationwide.
Based on our observations, retailers are free to set their own pre-order method but in general, it mainly can be done online or by physically visiting those retailers themselves. Sony Malaysia itself has begun to accept PS5 pre-order through its online store and allocations were apparently snatched in just minutes:
Over at Sony Store and Sony Centre throughout Malaysia, customers are seen to be already queuing in the wee hours of the morning. According to Sony Centre IOI City Mall in Putrajaya, the first person in the long line was there at around 3 AM:
Meanwhile, one of the admins for [PS4 Malaysia] Facebook group, Izzroy Isahak shared with us that the queue at Sony Store Suria KLCC was already formed when he arrived at the mall at 6:30 AM. When the outlet opened at 10:00 AM, its staff then handed out queue cards to those waiting in line.
Izzroy also pointed out that each customer was only allowed to pre-order one PS5 and one PS5 accessory at Sony Store Suria KLCC this morning. Additionally, this morning pre-order stocks consisted of only 116 PS5 with Blu-ray disc and 20 PS5 Digital Edition.
Another gamer, Zaidi “BelalangKunyit” Abdul Hair still managed to place his pre-order even though he came to queue up after 8:00 AM. By then, the line has since been expanded to other nearby stores.
Meanwhile, the pricing for both PS5 with Blu-ray disc drive and PS5 Digital Edition proved to be not far off from other Asian markets. Check out our report right here if you want to see how the pricing for PS5 in Malaysia fares against other markets throughout the world.
