Sony has unveiled its first aerial drone project known as Airpeak. The device is said to feature the company’s renown imaging and sensing technologies, as well as 3R (Reality, Real-time, and Remote) capabilities.
“Airpeak will support the creativity of video creators to the fullest extent possible, aiming to contribute to the further development of the entertainment industry as well as to improved efficiency and savings in various industries,” wrote Sony in the announcement. At the same time, the company noted that the project will also promote drone-use with the highest level of safety and reliability in “environments that have been difficult in the past”.
Besides highlighting the aforementioned details along with the implementation of AI Robotics to its upcoming yet mysterious drone, most of the information regarding the project is still kept under wraps. Especially in terms of the device’s design, specifications and so on.
However, Sony did mention that a dedicated website for Airpeak is now live, where new updates regarding the project will eventually be posted. Additionally, a teaser video (embedded above) which showcases a small glimpse of the drone has also been added to the company’s official YouTube channel.
Sony’s entry into the consumer drone market will be something that is worth keeping an eye out for. But should companies such as DJI and Parrot be worried? It looks like we’ll only find out when the Airpeak officially launches in Spring 2021.
