To help spread awareness of the cashless economy, the government will provide RM 50 e-wallet credit to citizens within the ages of 18 to 20 years old. The credit will be delivered through a program called eBelia which was announced as part of Belanjawan 2021.
According to the announcement by Finance Minister Tengku Zafrul Tengku Aziz, RM 75 million has been allocated for the eBelia program by the government. More than 1.5 million citizens are expected to receive the one-off e-wallet credit, according to the minister.
However, it is not known when the government would be kicking off the program though as no further clarifications were made by Minister Zafrul during his Belanjawan 2021’s speech. Since it revolves around e-wallet, we do wonder if it is based on the previous national e-wallet programs such as E-Tunai Rakyat and ePENJANA.
Nevertheless, we will keep you posted once we receive more information regarding eBelia in the near future.
