As part of the on-going tabling of Belanjawan 2021, Finance Minister Tengku Zafrul Tengku Aziz has announced that citizens within the B40 category will receive RM 180 telecommunications credit through an initiative called Program Jaringan Prihatin.
This credit can be used to help reduce the cost of Internet subscription or a new phone. The program is expected to benefit up to 8 million individuals throughout the country and comes at a cost of RM 1.5 billion to the government.
At the same time, Minister Zafrul has also announced that local telco companies will also participate in the program by matching the allocation through free data that is worth RM 1.5 billion. With regards to the rollout date, the Program Jaringan Prihatin has been scheduled to be implemented sometime in the first quarter of 2021.
