Insta360 has announced the successor to its 2018 pocket-sized 360-degree camera with the new ONE X2. The new device offers a slew of new upgrades and features, while at the same time retaining several key aspects from its predecessor.
Speaking of similarities, the Insta360 ONE X2 features the same form factor as the original and the ability to record 360-degree videos at up to 5.7K resolution 30fps. Stabilisation is based on the company’s FlowState technology, which uses the camera’s horizon levelling algorithm to remove shakes without the need of a gimbal.
A much welcomed upgrade over its predecessor is the inclusion of a new touchscreen display to preview images and videos. The pocket-sized camera is waterproof with a rating of IPX8, and is claimed to withstand depths at around 10 meters on its or up to 45 meters deep when equipped with the brand’s Dive Case. The ONE X2 is said to be able to last up to 80 minutes via its 1,630mAh battery.
As for audio capabilities, the device features four microphones that record clear, stereo audio that is further enhanced with Insta360’s new smart wind-reduction algorithm. Other than that, it can also record ambisonic audio, and support voice control via Bluetooth devices such as Apple AirPods and the likes.
Software-wise, the camera is also accompanied by a variety of built-in AI-powered editing features as well as shooting modes. For the latter, the ONE X2 capture modes includes 360-degree recording, Steady Cam, InstaPano, MultiView and many others. AI editing capabilities are plenty, including a “Invisible Selfie Stick” feature that edits out a user’s selfie stick, while “Ghost Town” takes your 360 timelapse video and removes people from it.
The Insta360 ONE X2 360-degree camera is priced at US$430 (~RM1,787) and is available now, at least in select markets outside of Malaysia. Its local availability and pricing has not been confirmed at this time.
