After what can only be described as a long-standing relationship between two entities, video game studio and publisher Devolver Digital is finally acquiring Croteam. The Texas-based video game developer announced that it had officially brought the Croatian video game developer into its fold via a statement on its official page.
If the name Croteam sounds familiar, that’s because the studio is the one behind one of the gaming world’s most famous video game series, Serious Sam. First released in 2001, the developer released a total of five Serious Sam titles, the most recent title being Serious Sam 4, which launched this September. Besides that, Croteam is also responsible for the puzzle game, The Talos Principle.
Seeing how Devolver Digital is the publisher that helped Croteam to get both its Serious Sam franchise and The Talos Principle out to the world, officially bringing the video game developer into the family both seems like the sensible and logical next step, and the publisher’s tongue-in-cheek message more or less confirms the point.
“Croteam and Devolver Digital have been dating for so long that we decided to go ahead and just get married.”
