Earlier this month, AirAsia X had announced that it will be going through a restructuring process [PDF] after being hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic which has severely restricted air travels throughout the world. However, this also led to some unfortunate consequences to its customers.
In a mass email to its customers, AirAsia X stated that it will not be able to provide refunds to customers until its debt restructuring proposal is approved by the Kuala Lumpur High Court. This also applies to applications for credit accounts and flight changes.
Here is a copy of the e-mail, shared by lifestyle and travel blogger, Wilson Ng:
AirAsia X has also set up a webpage regarding the matter on AirAsia’s support website although the contents of this article are aligned with the e-mail. In general, if you have an existing booking with AirAsia X or are waiting for ticket refunds as well as credit accounts, we have bad news, your request for a refund would not be fulfilled anytime soon.
Essentially, there is nothing you can do at the moment until the court decides whether to approve AirAsia X’s debt restructure plan or otherwise. Even so, AirAsia X has noted that it will be only able to provide travel credits to customers once the airline is able to resume its normal operations.
Until then, the only thing left to do if you are an AirAsia X customer is to wait for further updates from the airline.
