Threads is introducing a new feature that allows its users to direct message contacts beyond their close friends list. For those unaware, the Threads app was first introduced in 2019 to allow users to share status updates and communicate solely with those listed as Close Friends on Instagram.
According to a Twitter post from well-known app feature leakster Jane Manchun Wong, Threads is now allowing users to chat with those not in their Close Friends category on Instagram as well. Due to the app’s inability to gain significant user recognition since its launch, it is quite obvious to see why the company has decided to opt for this route.

The Instagram owned Threads will now feature an additional Everyone Else toggle beside the original Close Friends section. By tapping on the new toggle, users will be able to directly message all of their Instagram friends as usual from the standalone Threads app. However, this will still prioritise and allow status updates to only be visible for close friends.
At the time of writing, the aforementioned feature is already rolling out for all users. That said, if you are an active user of the Threads app, do ensure that you have the app updated to start using this feature.
