Nintendo has announced new characters for Super Smash Bros Ultimate, as part of its Fighter Pass 2. And they’re all from Minecraft. They are Steve, Alex, Zombie and Enderman.
And they look like they play a lot like the game that they come from. There’s a lot of building involved, which indicates that they are setup-heavy characters. Which is an odd addition, considering the nature of Super Smash Bros Ultimate as a whole. Not to mention they look completely out of place, maintaining their very blocky look while being in a game full of other detailed 34D characters.
Super Smash Bros Ultimate director Masahiro Sakurai also said that there’s a lot of work put into the existing stages as well to accommodate the Minecraft characters. This involves adding blocks, so that the Minecraft guests can do their thing. He also mentioned outright that these characters have extremely short ranges in their attacks compared to the other characters already in the game.
Nintendo will reveal more about these Minecraft characters in another stream. This will happen on 3 October, just before Minecraft Live. That will also likely be when the company reveals the characters’ release date to Fighter Pass 2 owners.
