Google is allegedly working on a dedicated car mode UI for Maps. According to a report by Android Police, the new interface looks similar to Android Auto’s, just with some noticeable tweaks and changes.

Layout-wise, the app seems to feature two buttons within its navigation mode, specifically a voice mode and home screen toggle. This seemingly makes navigation a little easier, allowing users to manually switch back and forth by tapping the visible third Maps icon. In addition, a music playback mode with large buttons is also present to enable easier toggling while on the road.

The home screen button will house the calls, messages, music players and podcast app, that will display the top three contacts and the three most recent calls in the same list, allowing users to easily dial up a number should they wish to do so. Additionally, there’s also a dedicated “Call someone else” button that allows users to simultaneously make a call – obviously – to anyone on Caller ID.

At the time of writing, there’s no official word about a global rollout. Still, if Google does intend to continue with its plan, then seeing it on our phones is only a matter of time.
