Blizzard’s co-founder Mike Morhaime left the company back in 2018. Now, he heads Dreamhaven, a new games company that consists of mostly other ex-Blizzard people. It even has two studios under it, called Moonshot and Secret Door.
The company has a pretty interesting history behind it, even if it’s still a very short one. After having left Blizzard, Morhaime hadn’t yet had plans for what he wants to do moving forward. That’s when he ran into a group of former Blizzard employees who wanted to start their own studio. Among them was former Hearthstone executive producer Jason Chayes. And with that, Dreamhaven was born.
And it’s a company that’s funded by Morhaime and his wife, Amy. In an interview with GamesBeat, he says this allows them to “control the destiny of the company in its early stages”. Now, the company has 27 employees across Dreamhaven itself and the Moonshot and Secret Door studios.
Morhaime has also not shared what sort of games that the company is working on. But as it is, it may be a couple of years before Dreamhaven makes their first game announcement. On the flip side though, it may be worth waiting for. Because whatever kind of game that will be announced, it will be made by the good ol’ Blizzard that’s not constrained by an Activision counterpart.
