The world is still recoiling from the shock acquisition of ZeniMax Media by Microsoft. The latter is also not done buying studios, as the company head said it is keeping an eye out for more suitable acquisitions. And this is feeding rumours that SEGA is next in line.
Talking to CNET, Microsoft head Satya Nadella said “You can’t wake up one day and say ‘Let me build a game studio’.” Xbox lead Phil Spencer also chimed in, saying “Content is just the incredible ingredient to our platform that we continue to invest in. This doubles the size of our creative organisation”.
With that, it’s little doubt that Microsoft will be making more acquisitions. On the flip side though, it remains to be seen if SEGA will be one of them. But it’s an idea that conspiracy theorists look to be feeding on. And in typical conspiracy theory fashion, the evidence is very contrived.

But who knows? Now that we know Microsoft is looking to buy more studios, the possibility of it buying up SEGA is not zero. And for all we know, it could actually happen. It’s just that it’s better to not hold your breath for it until more details surface.
