It was quite the surprise when Sony Interactive Entertainment first announced that it was bringing Horizon Zero Dawn to PC. And it looks like is likely only the first of many more to come. An excerpt from the company’s Corporate Report 2020 suggests that Sony is seriously considering bringing more of its exclusives to PC.
On page 43 of the document, SIE says “we will explore expanding our 1st party titles to the PC platform, in order to promote further growth in our profitability”. This is about as clear as the company has ever been about bringing more of its games to the PC platform.
Depending on your perspective, it’s also a slight contradiction to what the company publicly said before. When Horizon Zero Dawn was first announced to be making its way to PC back in March, head of PlayStation WorldWide studios Herman Hulst said not all exclusives will make the transition.
If profit is the reason behind this move, then porting all the console exclusives to PC would make more sense since it will be available to a larger market. Doing so may just mean people will stop buying PlayStations altogether. And if SIE is selling each console at a loss, then this may actually make sense.
