With the conclusion of the #FreeFortnite Cup, Fortnite is set to enter the new season today. But thanks to the legal battle between Epic Games and Apple, players on macOS and iOS will not be entering the new season. Because of this, players on Apple’s platforms will also lose crossplay, and will be stuck with one another.
A new season in Fortnite is usually pretty significant. Maps get updated, new cosmetics and in-game battle pass rewards get added. And the new season will possibly be a Marvel-themed one too. Though, because the Mac and iOS version of the game will not be getting new updates, they are effectively locked out of all this.
It’s not exactly surprising, considering the battle between the two companies. In fact, iOS users will not even be able to download the game, unless they’ve already done so before. Mac users can still download the game, oddly enough. But they still won’t be getting the new season, presumably because Apple terminated Epic Games’ dev account.
And considering legal disputes usually take forever to resolve, the situation seems unlikely to change for the foreseeable future. Unless Fortnite players on Mac and iOS are content with playing in their little island, the only other choice is to play elsewhere, or not at all.
