It appears that Xiaomi will also be joining the bandwagon of allowing real-time smartphone and PC interaction ala Microsoft’s ‘Your Phone’ feature. This was discovered in the latest beta version of the brand’s MIUI 12 operating system, which offers a new ‘Device Control’ app that enables this form of cross-interactivity.
According to a report by XDA, this new application supports a direct connection between a Xiaomi smartphone and a Windows PC via WiFi. Like Microsoft’s Your Phone feature, users can establish a link between the two devices by downloading a launcher on PC and then scanning the provided QR code with their phone.
Similarly, Device Control would then enable users to mirror their phone’s screen on PC and even launch different apps in multiple windows. The app also allows for cross-device file transfer by dragging and dropping files from one platform to another, and would also let users edit items from their phones on PC with a simple right click.
However, XDA noted that this new feature is only limited to the upcoming Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra and the Mi Notebook Pro 15 2020 laptop. A wider range of support for other devices is expected to be available once the Device Control app is available publicly along with the latest version of MIUI 12, the site added. XDA believes that a stable version will be released sometime in October this year.
