The COVID-19 worldwide pandemic had introduced a new normal for many, and along with it emerged several new trends; including the booming of video conferencing and the major success of Nintendo’s Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Riding on the latter’s popularity (and acting as a tribute to it), the Taiwanese branch of renown home interior brand IKEA had recreated photos from the key pages of its 2021 catalogue with in-game screenshots from the game.
Uploaded as a gallery on IKEA Taiwan’s official Facebook page, the company shared images from both the original catalogue and its Animal Crossing recreation side-by-side. Granted, not all in-game items match the brand’s products to a key, but it is fun seeing the efforts taken by IKEA designers as they try their best to match the scenes and items featured in the original.
As mentioned earlier, this tie-in with Animal Crossing is merely a tribute from the brand and isn’t official. Hopefully Nintendo wouldn’t see it as a breach in copyright, but then again this could also open a door to an actual partnership of some sort.
Regardless, the only take away from this unofficial collaboration is probably seeing what it would be like if IKEA had a presence in the game. Although, we’re sure that the experience wouldn’t be complete if the game wouldn’t have Villagers manually assemble the furniture themselves. Oh, and meatballs.
