Wireless charging on iPhones is nothing new, but a recent leak suggests that Apple may enhance the feature by including magnetic positioning. If true, this would also entail the possibility of the company announcing a new first-party wireless charger along with the iPhone 12 later this year.
Leaked images of the new iPhone’s components were uploaded on Weibo, which allegedly revealed its wireless charging coil that features a circular magnetic strip. According to IT Home, this strip will allow the device to stay in place while charging on a compatible accessory.
Leaker and Youtuber Filip Koroy (aka EverythingApplePro) claimed that this mechanism is included in official iPhone 12 cases as well. This would enable the phone to be charged wireless even when the casing is still attached.
Yup. Official iPhone 12 cases will also have this magnet system built in. Likely for perfect alignment with Apple's wireless chargers. pic.twitter.com/eDEQ474NIX

This wouldn’t be Apple’s first attempt at introducing its own wireless charging accessory, regardless if they are actually planning to launch one alongside the iPhone 12. The company previously intended to debut its AirPower charging mat in 2018, but was cancelled due to hardware complications.
We’ll eventually find out what the company has in store when it is ready to announce the upcoming iPhone 12 and its accessories. Apple is expected to hold the launch event sometime in late September this year.
