It looks like internet search giant Google is making a push in the home security department. This is likely to make its Nest products more appealing to those who are interested in that sort of thing. And to that end, the company is looking to partner with ADT, a company that specialises in just that.
As part of the partnership, Google will be investing US$450 million (~RM1.9 billion) in ADT. This equates to 6.6% of the latter’s shares. The deal is expected to close in the third quarter of the year, which we’re already in. And as a result of the partnership, ADT will also be selling Google Nest products, while ADT products will benefit from Google’s machine learning tech.
In its announcement, Google says that the coming together of both companies’ tech will mean fewer false alarms for users, while providing more ways for users to get notified of alarm events. ADT customers will also get access to Google’s Nest Aware, which will keep them informed about important events at home.
For now though, it remains to be seen when customers of both will be able to see the benefits of this partnership. Based on when the deal is expected to close, it will likely take awhile before that happens.
