The fourth generation of OPPO’s mid-range Reno series has officially been launched in Malaysia today. The Reno4 series promises increased performance over its predecessor, coming with an upgraded chipset, display, camera setup and more.
First up, we have the standard Reno4 model which features a 6.43-inch FHD+ display with a pill-shaped camera cutout on its upper left corner. The smartphone is equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G SoC, paired with 8GB RAM and 128GB internal storage that can be extended up to 256GB via MicroSD. Powering the device is a 4,015mAh battery which supports the company’s 30W VOOC 4.0 fast charging.
The OPPO Reno4 Pro, on the other hand, sports a larger 6.55-inch curved display with 90Hz refresh rate and 180Hz touch sampling rate. Unlike its non-Pro sibling, it only features a single punch-hole camera cutout on the upper left corner of its screen. Hardware-wise, the device also sports the same Snapdragon chipset and RAM size, but it features a larger internal storage capacity at 256GB. Surprisingly, the Pro variant offers a slightly smaller battery capacity at only 4,000mAh. That said, it does support OPPO’s impressive 65W SuperVOOC 2.0 fast charging technology, which is able to fully charge the device in about 36 minutes.
Another surprising similarity between The Reno4 and Reno4 Pro are their cameras – although its worth noting that the Pro sports a vertical four-camera layout, while the standard version offers a triple layout instead (with the fourth smaller sensor situated on the top row). Regardless, both models feature the same quad-camera setup consisting of a 48MP Sony IMX586 main, 8MP ultra-wide, 2MP macro, and 2MP mono sensors.
Housed in the front cutout on both devices is a 32MP Sony IMX616 front-facing camera. Software-wise, the Reno 4 series’ camera app features dedicated Night modes, electronic video stabilisation, several creative portrait modes, and is capable of recording slow-motion videos at 960fps.
Additionally, the Reno4 and Reno4 Pro feature an in-display fingerprint sensor, and a 3.5mm headphone jack at the bottom. Both are also running on Android 10 via OPPO’s ColorOS 7.2 out of the box.
The OPPO Reno 4 Series will be on sale in Malaysia starting from 8 August 2020. The Reno4 model is priced at RM1,699 and is available in Galactic Blue and Space Black colour options, while the Reno4 Pro retails at RM2,399 and is available in Starry Night and Silky White.
Pre-orders for the new smartphones are open from 3 August to 7 August, and early birds are entitled to additional gifts from OPPO. Those pre-ordering the Pro variant will receive OPPO Enco W31 TWS earphones and a 1-year screen protection warranty, while those opting for the standard version will receive a 1-year extended warranty from the company.
