In a rather interesting development, TM earlier today has announced that its Group CEO and Managing Director, Noor Kamarul Anuar Nuruddin has resigned from the company effective immediately. As you might have recalled, Noor Kamarul was appointed to both posts in June 2019.
Following his resignation today, TM revealed that the company has subsequently appointed Imri Mokhtar as its new GCEO and MD effective from August 2020 onwards. This is quite a surprising turn of events to us because Imri had just left TM around six months ago.
Even before his appointment today, Imri has been deemed as a veteran figure over at TM since he has spent a major part of his career at the country’s biggest telco company. In fact, he was the Acting GCEO of TM from November 2018 to June 2019 before Noor Kamarul came and took up the GCEO role.
After that, he returned to his original position as TM’s Chief Operations Officer (COO) before he left the company in January 2020 and picked up the same COO role at Celcom in May.
It is interesting to note that the appointment of Imri came just two months after TM announced Bakke Salleh as its new chairman. Hence, it seems that there are some major shakeups over at TM although for now, we don’t know how they will affect the company’s strategy as well as its product offerings for consumers.
