It took awhile, but Sony Interactive Entertainment finally revealed the look of the PlayStation 5. It’s still safe to say though that people have mixed views about the way the console looks. The colour is no doubt one of the reasons. While there’s no changing the design itself at this stage, leaks from the machine’s production lines indicates that you may be able to do something about the colour.
A set of images believed to have come from a PS5 production facility made its way to a Chinese forum A9VG. The images show what looks like the other side of the console’s white plates. While the quality and angle is not the best, it’s still enough to make out what looks like mounting hooks of some kind. This suggest the method which they are attached to the console, rather than using glue or screws.

One important thing to note that the hooks are on upside down on these supposed PS5 plates. Using the inverted PS logo as reference, you’ll see that the pointy end of the hooks go up rather than down. Which is fine if you have your console laying flat, but this makes it look like the plates will fall off by the will of gravity. Unless, of course, there’s something that clips to the bit that’s perpendicular to the pointy bit.
But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. While the images are convincing, there’s no way to tell if they are ultimately genuine. If they are, then it’s good news for future PlayStation 5 special editions. Gamers may not have to buy a whole new console, but can make do with buying the special edition plates.
