Periscope zoom seems to be all the rage on smartphones these days. And it looks like Apple may be adopting the zoom tech for the iPhones of 2022. At least, that’s what TF Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicts.
According to 9to5Mac, Kuo thinks two companies will be joining the Apple iPhone supply chain this year. These companies are Semco and Sunny Optical. The former is reportedly already providing the ball-based voice coil motor for the iPhone 12’s improved autofocus. The company is also said to be providing the periscope telephoto lenses for the 2022 iPhone. No details on what Sunny Optical will be contributing exactly.
If this is indeed the case, the iPhone will be joining a number of other flagship phones to already feature periscope zoom lenses. Notable ones include the Huawei P30 Pro, and the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra. While it’s not beyond Apple to adopt tech that other brands use, this does feel a little too early.
At any rate, we’re talking about devices that are two years away from now. A lot can change by then, and we should be worrying about this year’s iPhones instead. Rumour has it that the iPhone 12 won’t come with a charging adapter, but will have a braided lightning cable instead.
