Samsung DeX has allowed for some of the Korean tech giant’s phones to act like desktops. The feature has always needed specialised hardware, or at least a cable when used with Windows and Mac software. But hints of it being able to operate wirelessly has recently surfaced.
XDA found code strings and screenshots within the Samsung Tips app which suggested the wireless DeX usage. An accompanying line mentions using Samsung DeX on a TV without a cable.
For now, it’s unclear if there are other prerequisites to this wireless DeX mode. Just as Windows and Mac systems needed the dedicated software in order to access DeX via a plugged-in phone, it remains to be seen if this is the case for the wireless mode to work. It’s also unknown for now if this is a TV-only thing, or if it will be accessible via Windows and Mac as well.
For now, it’s suggested that the screen on the Samsung Tips app was pushed out accidentally. Which, at the very least, means that it is supposed to go live at some point. Whether or not it’s as soon as the launch of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 20 remains to be seen.
