The outbreak of COVID-19 has forced smartphone manufacturers to forego their usual on-ground launch event and move to the virtual space to unveil their new products. Such virtual launch events would usually involve live webcast but OnePlus has decided to take a different approach.
Instead of hosting yet another live telecast, the company has chosen to adopt Augmented Reality (AR) for the launch of OnePlus Nord on 21 July. To announce and tease the launch event, the company has sent this invite card throughout the world.
Additionally, OnePlus has also put the AR invite card on sale in Amazon India for INR 99 which is around RM 6 in our currency. As weird as this might sound, the invite was a hit over there and quickly sold out even though you actually don’t need the invite card to check out the launch event on 21 July as it will unfold through the OnePlus Nord app that can be downloaded by anyone.
Ahead of its launch later this month, OnePlus has recently revealed the design of the phone in an interview with MKBHD. Despite that, the official specs of the phone are still being kept a secret for now, with the exception of several items such as Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G processor, 5G support, two selfie snappers including a 105-degree ultra-wide camera, and four rear cameras.
Not to forget, Malaysia has been confirmed one of the official markets for OnePlus Nord. Similar to the phone’s specs, OnePlus has also yet to announce the availability and pricing information for the phone in Malaysia. So, do stay tuned as we will keep you posted once we receive more details about OnePlus Nord from OnePlus Malaysia.
