Purchasing a physical copy for PC software such as games and applications is rare in this day and age, thanks to the convenience of obtaining them via the internet. That said, those who insist on getting a physical copy of the upcoming 2020 version of Microsoft Flight Simulator should take note that it will arrive in a total of 10 DVD discs.
In Europe, Microsoft had arranged a deal with publisher Aerosoft to ship a physical version of Flight Simulator across Europe. The announcement of the 10-disc set was made known by company community manager Mathijs Kok via its forum.
“Aerosoft will bring the two boxed versions of this venerable simulator to customers in Europe,” he wrote in the forum post. “Including 10 (!) double-layer DVDs and a printed manual in a spectacular box, it is an ideal way of entering the new age of flight simulation.”
Kok revealed that all 10 discs for the retail version of Microsoft Flight Simulator will include the code for the simulator itself and the files required for the virtual world it is set in – totalling up to 90GB of data. He added that the set also included optional online streamed content and optional third-party files, and noted that users will still need to download additional updates from the Microsoft server after installing the software.
“So the simulator is in every way, 100-percent the same. The boxed retail version just gets you a nice box, printed manual and about 90GB you do not have to download,” he said. “There is no difference between boxed retail and the version MS sells directly.”
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 launches on 18 August, with the standard edition priced at USD59.99 (~RM255) and the Premium Edition at USD119.99 (~RM510). Do check out our previous article if you’re wondering what are the PC requirements for the software.
